Description

Washington State Airport & Airspace Three Dimensional 3D Raised Relief Map
  • Horizontal Scale: 1:671,000 (1" = 10.6 miles)
  • Vertical Exaggeration: 4x (1" = 14,000 feet elevation)
  • Size: 3D model area 40" x 26", overall size 42" x 28"

This Airports and Aviation version of Washington State Map measures 40" x 26" and includes the Columbia River Gorge/Valley and northern Oregon, as well a small part of western-most Idaho. The map is precisely molded to the shape of the terrain and uses an enhanced satellite image overlaid with a graphic layer that identifies public use airports and airspace. Key geographic features, rivers, the Pacific Crest Trail, peaks, major highways, and larger cities are also annotated.

This large map is available in three formats: fully framed and ready to hang in a black anodized aluminum frame (see the additional photos); mounted on foam-board and ready for you to frame yourself; or unframed, perfect for pinning to a bulletin board.

How are these three dimensional raised relief maps made?

Each raised relief map starts as a map printed on a flat study sheet of vinyl. It is carefully registered over a 3D model that is made from USGS digital elevation model data. The vinyl is heated to make it pliable and a vacuum is created to form the map over the model. Take a look at the process below.
